Our Chicago Smile

When we come off the elevator at the V.A. Medical Center in Atlanta, Mr. Hughes often greets us with his joyful, “Oh-Oh” right in the hallway. His vocal high-five and warm “come-on-in” smile just might be the best part of my week. Even after our time together, his joy for music and excitement for the workshops still shine.   You take it with you.

Richard Hughes served his country for over 20 years as a Sergeant in the Army. During the Vietnam War, he was instrumental in the technology and communications of our fighting forces. You could say connections are his thing.

He is our whistle solo on Sittin’ on the Dock of a Bay. He is our vocal organist on House of the Rising Sun.

He is our Chicago Smile.
